Your Videographer is Asking What Videos You Need: What’s Missing
It’s surprising how often we hear from business owners that on their latest video project, their videographer asked them to come up with the content they wanted filmed and produced. It's so common that many business owners think this is the "standard" - let us be the first to tell you it shouldn’t be!
The problem is that most people aren’t sure what they need. It would be like going to the dentist with a few broken teeth and the dentist asks you which one he should fix first. Aren’t they supposed to tell YOU that?
We care about our clients winning - we aren’t satisfied with just a good looking video. It’s so much more than that. It needs to catalyze your marketing efforts and help you reach your goals. This requires creating a content strategy and strategic message that work within the fabric of your company and reaches your client base. Keep reading for key components of how to hire a videographer, more importantly- how to find the right one.
Videos are a tool.
When we started the company in 2018, clients would often hire us to make a single video for their website - and even though they loved what we produced, we found that the video would go unused, maybe shared once on social never to be seen or heard of again.
When we recognized that our approach needed something more, we shifted our focus to strategy - our business savvy not only could be used to create video campaigns, but we also began to advise our clients on the trajectory of their brand and business growth. We started piling on as much value as we could with our video production.
And it gave our clients amazing results.
"Having the videos you produced changed the course of the company."
"You're not like any videographer I've ever worked with."
That's because we aren't just videographers.
We are a video production agency and growth consulting firm. You need more than just a visually pleasing video clip. What you need is a team that’s going to have your company’s back when it comes to making the absolute most out of your content - a team that can anticipate and know where your business is headed. If a videographer asks you what kind of videos you need, or if they want you to tell them what you want your video to say, consider they may not be operating at the level you need them to in order to bring the results you're looking for.
What's missing: Partnership. Content creation is an intimate process.
Whenever you are hiring someone to create content about you or your business, ask yourself these three things:
1. Do they understand what I'm creating?
You need to make sure you can connect on a creative level with whoever you hire because if you don’t understand their vision and they don’t understand yours, there is no way they can contribute to your video content in a way that will directly help you reach your goals.
2. Do they have a plan for my content?
If you don’t have a clear strategy for your content and its use, the videos move the needle in your business. When you have a concrete plan for the purpose of your content, digital marketing is no longer a source of stress and instead an exciting way to share your gifts with more buyers.
3. Can they speak my language?
Never shy away from the unique thing that makes your brand shine. Whoever is behind the camera should GET you. Having a team that sees your unique gifts will bring out the best of you in your video content.
Dragonfly Visions produces systems of content that propel motion.
And we are not for everyone! If you don't start to answer yes to all three questions within the first 30 minutes meeting with us, we are probably not the right fit. That’s why we take careful consideration when signing on new clients because we aim for excellence and alignment.
